Fuckin basement tapes of doom. Your village will fry if you don’t listen to Volume 9 of the Basement Tapes. Enjoy!

This is the best recording of this song I have ever heard.

A GREAT run of this catchy number, featuring some very funny talking at the head of the track and bitchin’ solo riffology by the Master of Rock.
Burn it to the Ground (as mic check)
recorded March 7, 2007
In terms of the bass line here, this is Burn It To The Ground, a song we are working up for use in SPIDERTRON 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO, and possibly also to play onstage. At the time of this recording, I did not yet know all the lyrics—in fact I hadn’t finished writing/revising them yet—so this is a largely instrumental version of the song, with some singing of the phrase “mic check.” Perhaps one day we will open a show with this, starting out with the mic check bit, then transitioning into the song proper. Stay tuned!
Ghosts (1)
recorded April 29, 2007
Not only does this track document the first time Ghosts, an older song from Carter and Emily’s back catalog, gets recorded* at a Telepathic Dumpster rehearsal, CHECK OUT the fuckin’ BITCHIN’ guitar work by Carl and Josh on this version—evidence of their legendary Telepathic Connection.
*As you’ll hear in the talk near the end of the track, we played this song at the previous rehearsal but Carter had no tape recorder running then.
recorded April 29, 2007
This is more like the usual stage version of Ghosts that we started playing live shortly after this rehearsal.

Those who have cruised Carl's YouTube page (at www.youtube.com/user/carlgileadnash) already know that this is one of my all-time favorite Carl-penned songs. This is a recording of the first time we played it smoothly from tip to tail.

Once Carter borrows a pick and figures out what key it’s in, this turns out to be a pretty damn good take of this rarely played and lyrically significant song.
recorded May 6, 2007
Actually the second run of the song on the evening of May 6th, this recording reveals a tune early in its development so there are still some flubs and flaws to be heard. But what a great song! -- and we do nail the strange timing of the middle section a little more confidently than we did on the recording of April 29.
Can't Trust That Alligator (jam)
recorded May 6, 2007
Despite its interesting title, and though Emily and Carl do sing some great improvisational vocals here and there, it’s primarily the instrumental groove that makes this spontaneous jam so pleasurable a listen.
The Kangaroo Corpse - Little Wrongs
recorded May 6, 2007
Here’s a very short improvisation called The Kangaroo Corpse, which mostly entails Carl singing about how he’s going to shoot a kangaroo with a shotgun full of rock salt, ostensibly to pre-tenderize the kangaroo meat for later consumption. Great melody! We then roll directly into a great take of Little Wrongs—with an interesting new vocal coda by Carter. Enjoy!

Our third and final take of this song that evening, this still has rough spots but is the most solid overall so far. Strangely, after this recording we more or less ceased to play this song ever again, and to my memory we have not played it live onstage more than once or twice.* Why have we drifted away from such a wonderful song? It’s a mystery.
*Carl confirms this: he distinctly remembers playing the song at an early Cozmic Pizza show, then again some time later at the Black Forest—but never since.

Sometimes it’s fun to check in on a classic number and see how it has changed over time. Admixture is a live favorite, and was last recorded in Basement Tapes Volume 4, on December 2, 2005. This version rocks pretty hard, and includes an interesting a capella vocal intro.

A really rockin’ take of a new song co-composed by Josh and Carl. Emily now has lyrics for this tune but this is an instrumental-only version.

Bladderosphere: This delightful and informative ballad winds its way through many different movements over the course of this track, which was recorded during a so-called “break” in rehearsal on the evening of June 24, 2007. It concludes with Carl’s brief musical outline of a plan to compose a new Poop Song.

This was the first night we played this song with its exciting second section integrated into the whole. Fuck yeah!
recorded June 24, 2007
A solid version of this song with some great vocal improvisations by Emily at the head of the tune.
Car Wash Change Thief Action Squad
recorded June 24, 2007
To my knowledge this is the first time we ever played Car Wash Change Thief Action Squad, and it fucking rocks!
